Detailed information concerning file systems at PSI is only available using
intranet access.
Backup/Restore
All PSI networked drives are backed up regularly. PSI work related data
should only be stored on these drives. Data stored locally on your workstations
is not backed up!
Similar applies to AFS file system users, however in this case, a complete
copy of your file system from the previous day can be found in the backup
folder of your home directory. If this doesn't fulfil your needs, submit a
trouble
ticket to the helpdesk.
N.B. There is no backup for scratch disks and ftp servers!
Disk Quota and Storage Recommendations
Users of both AFS and Windows file systems are given a prescribed
disk quota allowance. N.B. All project data should be stored on the project
and group drives and NOT on the user home drives such as U:, for this reason
the allowed project and group quotas are much larger than user quotas. Should
a user or project require a larger allowance, he should simply
submit a request an incremental increase in disk quota from the multipurpose web registration form and we will increment
it accordingly. For unusually large disk quota requirements see the disk
quota allowance document.
Archiving
Mass data, like data from experiments, which does not change and which needs
a longer storage lifetime can be moved to tape using the
archive
ftp server. You will need an archive
account for this. Please comply to the usage regulations for this data,
e.g. avoiding small files, no PC backups!
File Transfer Systems
Windows Scratch File System (Intranet only): either automatically with a
Windows Login or mounted with the command net use s: \\Scratch0\scratch . It can also be reached in intranet via ftp://scratch0.psi.ch
